Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 7, 2026  ·  Effective: September 7, 2026

Mental Math ("the app", "we", "us") is an educational math-practice game operated by Ertugrul Turkseven, based in Massachusetts, USA. The app is designed for children, including students under 13. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and the choices parents, guardians, and schools have.

We do not show ads, we do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use children's data for behavioral advertising or to build marketing profiles. Data is used only to run the game and to show a student their own progress (and their teacher the progress of their own class).

1. Who can create an account

If your child created an account directly without your involvement, contact us at the address in Section 10 and we will delete it.

2. Information we collect

b. Gameplay information

Each time a game is played, we store:

This is used to show a student their own stats and progress over time, and (in a future classroom dashboard) to show a teacher the progress of students in their own class.

c. Multiplayer information

When you join a multiplayer room, your display name, avatar, and live score are shown to the other players in that room (up to five people). Room data is deleted after the game ends.

d. Information stored on your device

The app saves the following in your browser's local storage so the app works between visits. This stays on your device and is not a profile we build about you: display name and avatar, best scores, a short recent-score history, daily streak, and settings (language, theme, sound). Your login session is also stored so you stay signed in — sign out on a shared or classroom device so the next person does not use your account.

e. Information collected automatically

Our hosting provider and our database provider (see Section 4) automatically log the IP address and browser type of devices that connect to the service, as part of normal operation and security. We do not use this to track individuals across other websites. The app itself contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts.

3. Information we do not collect

4. Who we share information with

We share information only with service providers that help us run the app, and only as needed:

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of users.

5. Children's privacy (COPPA)

The app is directed to children and we comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We collect only the information needed for the educational activity, and we do not condition a child's participation on providing more information than is reasonably necessary.

You have the right to:

To make any of these requests, contact us using Section 10. We will verify that you are the child's parent or guardian before acting.

6. Data retention

We keep account and gameplay data while the account is active. Accounts and their gameplay history that have been inactive for 13 months are deleted. Multiplayer room data is deleted after each game. You can request deletion at any time (Section 10).

7. How we protect information

No online service can be guaranteed perfectly secure. If a data breach affects Massachusetts residents, we will notify affected people and the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office and Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation as required by Massachusetts law (M.G.L. c. 93H).

8. Information for schools (FERPA)

When a school or district uses the app with students, the school directs the collection and use of student information for its own educational purposes. Student information is not used for any commercial purpose, is not sold, and is not used for advertising. A school may request a copy of, correction of, or deletion of its students' data at any time by contacting us. Schools may also ask us to sign a student data privacy agreement.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and change the "Last updated" date. For material changes affecting information already collected from children, we will seek consent again where the law requires it.
